Butterfly Pin Production Cost
I have been tasked to calculate the costs to produce my butterfly pin accessory for the Teen Vogue X Parson's certificate program. The pin was made using card stock, watercolor pencils, glaze, pin backs, rhinestones, a stamp set and a matching punch. If I were to sell these pins I would not include the full prices of the stamp set, punch and watercolor pencils in the total because they are expensive supplies that are not only used for the pins but for many other projects. These would simply come out of my own pocket or over time be covered by my personal profits. A pack of white cardstock costs $8 for 40 sheets. I only need about an inch of each 12x12 sheet to make the butterfly. Pin backs are $.49 each and rhinestones are $5 a pack. I would roughly estimate how much I would charge for the other supplies because I wouldn't use all of it for the one pin. Here is how each item affects the cost of the pin:
Watercolor Pencils: $0.50 (pack costs $16 originally)
Card Stock: $.20
Glaze: $.20
Pin back: $.49
Stamp set: $1
Punch: $1
Rhinestones: $.25
Work time: .5 hours at $11/hr
TOTAL PRODUCTION COST: $9.14
20% profit: $1.82
TOTAL COST PLUS PROFIT/ESTIMATED RETAIL PRICE: $10.96
